Shelters that will make you feel safe during disasters!

Tornado and Hurricane, what’s the difference?

Both tornado and hurricane are rotating storms causing massive destruction and have nothing in common. Tornadoes form over land due to thunderstorms when the weather is in stable and wind shear in the atmosphere. Hurricanes form over water due to a storm in a warm or tropical area and are less frequent than tornadoes. Let us look at few tips to make effective tornado shelters and hurricane shelters.

Hurricane Shelter

You can make your in-door hurricane shelter effective to protect your family by following a few tips. Pick a room without windows underground of your house. If you happen to live in an apartment on a higher level, just know where the emergency shelters in your neighborhood exist. Now, for your indoor shelter, identify a safe place to store non-perishable food and water. Just imagine what life will be like immediately after the storm. There will be no electricity, and your home might be severely damaged. Make sure you have flashlights, batteries, plastic sheets, boots, and materials to protect yourself and your belongings during natural disasters.

Tornado Shelter

A tornado shelter requires careful planning to be truly powerful. Your focus should be on the door to the tornado shelter. A steel door in a steel frame is the best option for maximum stability and protection against possibly large, heavy flying debris. You can also consider building safe rooms of any size you desire. The room should be of concrete with steel doors installed underground a garage or yard. Where it is not possible for an underground shelter, consider a concrete structure inside the house and can serve as a closet or storage room.

Conclusion

During natural disasters, protect your family in such shelters. Start planning early enough to install shelters to prevent loss of life during such natural calamities.
